Katie Collier named Guidance Director of the Year by Greater KC association

Katie Collier, Lee’s Summit R-7 School District Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Instruction, was named Greater Kansas City Guidance Director of the Year by the Greater Kansas City School Counselor Association.

Collier was recognized at an April 23 regional banquet, held in Independence.

The counselor association includes approximately a dozen school districts on the Missouri side of the Kansas City metropolitan area. Collier was selected among guidance directors from throughout the member districts.

Within the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District, Collier supervises counselors at elementary schools. An educator for 20 years, Collier has worked for Lee’s Summit R-7 for 17 years. Before becoming the district’s Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Instruction, she served as principal for Lee’s Summit Elementary and Underwood Elementary; the district’s coordinator for gifted education; assistant principal at Cedar Creek and Pleasant Lea Elementary; and as a teacher at Underwood Elementary.

Collier earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education and learning disabilities from Northwest Missouri State University, her master’s degree in elementary administration from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She is currently completing her doctorate in educational leadership and policy from Baker University.
