Lee’s Summit Sunrise Rotary Club

7:15 a.m., Emaline Ballroom – Every Friday morning you are cordially invited to attend the Lee’s Summit Sunrise Rotary at the Emaline Ballroom, 616 SW Third St. You will have the opportunity to meet our many business members, have breakfast provided by local restaurateurs and hear an interesting program. Genealogy workshop

Noon-4:30 p.m., Midwest Genealogy Center, 3440 S. Lee’s Summit Road – Prairie Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution will sponsor a Genealogy Workshop on June 15. The workshop is open to chapter members, prospective members and those women interested in learning more about Daughters of the American Revolution. To reserve a seat, please contact Lucille Lamb at prairieregistrar@kc.rr.com. Registration deadline is June 1.

Farmers Market

7 a.m.-noon, corner of Second and Douglas in Downtown Lee’s Summit – Live entertainment, craft activities for children, balloon animals, face painting and more. A “pop-up art show,” called the Lexicon of Sustainability, a photography exhibit of 24 photographs taken by Douglas Gayeton. Also stop by Saint Luke’s East Hospital’s tent to catch a cooking demonstration from chef Steve Duben.

8:30-10:30 a.m., Corner of Second and Douglas Streets, Downtown Lee’s Summit – Join Saint Luke’s East Hospital at the Lee’s Summit Farmers’ Market Spring Celebration. Saint Luke’s East Hospital’s chef, Steve Duben, will be on hand cooking healthy Chicken Kabob Skewers. Try a sample, grab the recipe, and shop for the ingredients to make the skewers at home. Kim Alexander, registered dietitian and manager of clinical nutrition services, will also be on hand to answer your questions about healthy eating.

Lee’s Summit Quilters Guild

9 a.m., Woods Chapel United Methodist Church, 4725 NE Lakewood Way– The program for May is Barbara Jones of BJ Patterns and Designs. Al-Anon

Noon, First Presbyterian Church of Lee’s Summit, 1625 NW O’Brien Road – Is someone’s drinking causing you problems? Come to Al-Anon and join friends and family of alcoholics. The group meets weekly at noon on Mondays and 7:30 p.m. Thursdays.

“Coping with life alone”

6:45-9:00 p.m., May 7-June 18, Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1800 SW State Route 150– The program helps those who have lost a love relationship due to death, divorce or separation move through the experience of grief and loss into a future with renewed hope.
