Up, up and away

Chris Banks and Daxton Gautreaux getting instruction on building rockets from science teacher Kristine Smith. The seventh grade classes May 9 at Summit Lakes Middle School in Lee’s Summit were assembling kits, including solid fuel engines. They were to launch their rockets the following day with help from the Kansas City Association of Rocketry. Smith said the project is a fun way to connect study of Newton’s Laws of Motion with the real world.
