Independence man charged in rape of LS girl

An Independence man is in jail after being charged May 14 in connection with the rape of a 15-year-old Lee’s Summit girl.

Michael Coyle, 20, of Independence faces one count of felony forcible rape after the victim reported to a counselor at Lee’s Summit High School that she had been raped.

According to court records, the victim disclosed to the counselor that she had been raped May 12, Mother’s Day, and had been molested by the same man several times in the past.

When questioned by detectives with the Lee’s Summit Police Department, Coyle confessed to the rape and the other allegations of molestation.

Prosecutors requested a cash bond of $100,000.
