James E. McAlpin

James E. McAlpin “Jim”, 81, passed away on May 18, 2013.

Jim served in the Navy during the Korean War, was a member of the Lee’s Summit Jaycees, as well as member of the Masonic Lodge in Lee’s Summit for 50 plus years. He and his wife enjoyed square dancing with various clubs over prior years and was a square dance caller until 1987.

After retiring from the IRS, he spent many of his remaining years volunteering for the Rainbow Center in Blue Springs, as well as at the American Royals’ annual BBQ as a Judge and Table Captain, and the annual Blue Springs BBQ Blaze-Off. He also enjoyed being a tour guide at the Harry S. Truman Library for many years.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James R. McAlpin and Daisy H. McAlpin, and a brother, Howard McAlpin.

He is survived by his wife, Marcy McAlpin, of the home, his son, Kenneth McAlpin (Sherri), his daughter, Linda Hill (Jerry), four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and his brother, Charles McAlpin (LaRue).

Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. on May 23, 2013 at Langsford Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior at 6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Hospice or to any charity of your choosing.
