Miss Delma Carpenter of Greenwood has been teaching school longer than some people care to remember. She has been teaching for 46 years, 39 of which have been spent teaching first graders at the Lee’s Summit Grade School. She says she likes to think that she contributed a little bit to the success of many local people. Naming a few of her students, she lists Nate Corder, who was in her first class at the local grade school. Some of the others she mentioned were: Dr. William Bell, Dr. Russel Ritter, Dr. Wayne Belser, Betty Witter, George Rhodes Jr., Rosemary Grace, Charles Fillmore, Eddie Poos and Richard Burry.
Ruth Ann Hertzog, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D.L. Hertzog, was presented with a proclamation by Governor John M. Dalton proclaiming "June is Dairy Month." Miss Hertzog was earlier proclaimed "Missouri Maid of Milk" and has been present at many affairs of state and dairy gatherings of the year.
