Simmons First dedicated to sound principles

Simmons First was founded on sound, conservative business principles. The same principles we live by today. It’s what has allowed us to continue to serve our customers and the communities that we have called home for 110 years. It is these same conservative business principles that have allowed us to continue to grow and prosper even during these recent uncertain economic times.

Founded in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Simmons First opened its doors on March 23, 1903 with four employees. Today Simmons First National Bank is one of eight affiliate banks of the holding company Simmons First National Corporation whose common stock was first listed on the NASDQ stock exchange in 1985. That same year Simmons First caused a nationwide stir surrounding their low rate credit cards which resulted in almost 9000 calls per hour from prospective customers. The Simmons First credit cards continue to receive national media recognition from publications such as Consumer Reports, Kiplinger, CNN Money.com, Money Magazine and the Wall Street Journal to name just a few.

Company Growth:

Throughout our 110 year history Simmons First has seen steady growth, and today conducts financial operations from 96 offices in 55 communities in Arkansas, Kansas and Missouri.

May 14, 2010 was a historical date for Simmons First marking the date that we first expanded our footprint beyond the borders of Arkansas with an acquisition in Springfield, Missouri. In October of the same year Simmons First made a second acquisition, this time expanding into Kansas with the purchase of nine financial centers in the Kansas City Metro area, Salina and Wichita Kansas.

During 2012 Simmons First made two additional strategic acquisitions within Missouri. On September 14, 2012 Simmons First announced the acquisition of Truman Bank of Clayton, Missouri with financial centers in Clayton, Crestwood, Normandy and St. Peters, Missouri. On October 19, 2012 Simmons First announced the acquisition of Excel Bank of Sedalia, Missouri which marked the second acquisition for the year in Missouri.

In addition to adding financial centers to its Missouri footprint in Sedalia, Green Ridge and Kirkwood, the acquisition of Excel Bank brought Simmons First to the Lee’s Summit market and added to its footprint of four financial centers in the Kansas City MSA which includes Olathe, Overland Park and Leawood.

 

Today Simmons First has more than 1400 employees and conducts financial operations from 96 offices in 55 communities in Arkansas, Kansas and Missouri, including Lee’s Summit Missouri.

Approach to Customer Service:

Simmons First is committed to providing exceptional quality customer service (QCS) through our community banking strategy. We have developed QCS standards that we expect our associates to deliver when serving our customers, both internal and external.   Our approach to customer service is simple … “Treat every customer the same way we want to be treated when we’re the customer.”   Our expectation of the level of excellence in the delivery of QCS does not differentiate between the internal or external customer.  Our external customers are surveyed to monitor customer satisfaction and our associates are “mystery shopped” to measure their efforts in providing memorable customer experiences.  Our QCS Awards Program recognizes and rewards associates for their outstanding performance.  During 2012, over 700 awards were presented to associates throughout the corporation who went above and beyond in the delivery of quality customer service.

 

Community Banking Philosophy

Simmons First is committed to the philosophy that people make a difference. In spite of the changes occurring in technology and electronics, banking is still – in fact, more than ever – a people business.

We believe that our community banking philosophy has been the key to our success. It is a philosophy that stresses the importance of being involved in our communities by putting our time, talents and money into these communities. In 2012, Simmons First had over 1200 associates involved in contributing more than 29,000 volunteer hours to over 600 organizations in 47 communities.

As we continue to grow our company and expand our footprint, reaching new customers and bringing more convenience to our existing ones, we do so with our people and customers in mind. While some customers may come to us out of convenience, they stay with us because of the relationships we build together.
