Ralph Powell, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Powell, received his Bachelor of Science degree from Louisiana State University. (He later became mayor of Lee’s Summit.)

50 years ago

June 1963

Todd George, oldest living former mayor of Lee’s Summit, was pictured in the Journal making dedicatory remarks as the former post office building on Main Street was dedicated as the new Lee’s Summit City Hall. Also in the picture were Charles Oldham, mayor; Irene Lavery, city clerk; C.E. Lavery, city attorney; Robert Walz, Logan Childers, George Rhodes Jr. and Gerald Mulligan, all city aldermen.

Richard Burry, 602 Howard, was elected president of the Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce. He succeeded Dick Falk in the office. Other officers named were Ray Dunning, vice president; Jim Sage, secretary; Merle Barton, treasurer; Dick Falk and Stan Jolliff, 1-year directors; Jim Martin and Walt Foley, 2-year directors.
