Woodland Elementary, business partners raise close to $6,000 for Borchert family

June 5, 2013

Woodland Elementary students and staff members, with the help of two local businesses, recently raised close to $5,000 to benefit Jonas Borchert, a Lee’s Summit High School student battling cancer.

Jonas attended elementary school at Woodland.

Students and staff members donated cash throughout the event which included support from Lee’s Summit restaurants, Culver’s and Chick-fil-A.

Students had the opportunity to donate money to specific Woodland employees’ funds with the top three staff members receiving pies in their faces during an all-school assembly May 17.

Staff members receiving a pie in the face included Shelli Cornell, Kathy Ryan and Amy Westacott.

Jonas also attended the assembly and had the opportunity to throw pies into the faces of the staff members.
