i hate

to

wait

eat

shop

among

only

strangers

therefore

i sniff

explore

initiate

attempts at

conversation

begin

with a

cliché

anticipate

exchange

a sentence

or two

listening

for clues

to

commonalities

often

there are

more

than i

could have

imagined

occasionally

long talks

ensue

our

interior

lives

are so

inescapably

lonely

lets be

alone

together

for

a moment

stay

awake

to

possibility

mark

our paths

some way

in case

we may

meet

again

and can’t

remember

then

that we

knew

each

other

when

h.
