Lee’s Summit starts Third Street detours in July for water main replacement

June 28, 2013

Lee’s Summit is getting ready to replace several feet of water line along Third Street from Independence to Green streets.

Because of the location of the water mains in this area, the westbound lane of Third Street from Independence to Green streets will be closed July 15 to September 13, and westbound traffic will be diverted to Second Street from Independence to Douglas streets. Driveway access for residents and businesses in the impacted area will be allowed throughout construction.

This is part of the Neighborhood Water Main Replacement initiative Lee’s Summit Water Utilities, which began in the summer of 2012 to replace about six miles of water mains throughout the City.

These water mains have reached the end of their effective life cycle and as a result, have an excessive break history. The replacement of the water mains will reduce repair expenses and interruptions to water service caused by water main breaks.
