Beth Akins named Friend of the Library by Greater KC association

July 3, 2013

Beth Akins, library clerk at Summit Lakes Middle School, received the Friend of the Library Award from the Greater Kansas City Association of School Librarians this spring.

The Friend of the Library Award recognizes a person or persons who support the library media services in an exemplary manner.

Akins’ colleagues praised her knowledge, dedication and creativity as well as her ability to help students and provide a welcoming environment within the library.

“Beth Akins is not just a friend to our library media center, she is our library media center,” said Whitney Morehead, SLMS assistant principal. “Beth works tirelessly to make sure the library and its programs run smoothly.”

Christie Brown, Summit Lakes library media specialist, added, “She always keeps a smile on her face and will go to all lengths to problem solve issues.”

“Because of Beth, I read more and talk about what I am reading with my students and colleagues,” said Damon Carr, SLMS teacher.

Akins received the award during May at the Greater Kansas City association’s spring banquet.
