Lee’s Summit Elementary celebrates summer learning

July 3, 2013

Lee’s Summit Elementary students, families, friends and staff members celebrated the first month of summer learning during a special event June 13.

Approximately 200 people attended a free cook out dinner and watched a movie together at the school.

At the celebration, staff members announced that students had already logged more than 1,000 learning activities during the first month of the summer. These included reading for 20 minutes, practicing math facts and strategies, and partaking in learning opportunities on approved web site/programs.

For every 10 activities a student logged, a ticket was earned. These tickets were placed in a drawing for prizes, such as swim accessories, backyard games, footballs, basketballs, side walk chalk and game night sets. One lucky future first-grade student was able to earn both a mega set of Legos as well as a Razor Scooter.

Lee’s Summit Elementary will celebrate the second month of summer learning with students at a free swim party at Summit Waves July 11.
