Shop Lee’s Summit winner announced

July 5, 2013

Shelia Hilker is the lucky winner of the Shop Lee’s Summit $1,000 prize.

Hilker was awarded her $1,000 check June 21 during the annual Parks and Recreation concert Rock the Green.

The Shop Lee’s Summit contest was created by the Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the city of Lee’s Summit to educate and encourage residents to purchase goods and services in Lee’s Summit.

To enter the contest residents had to fill out an official entry form and attach five original receipts from five separate businesses in Lee’s Summit.

This was the second year for the contest. The contest began May 1 and ended May 31.

The Chamber received 1,003 entries, totaling $143.700.94.

“My staff heard several times how excited residents were about the contest,” Nancy Bruns, Chamber president, said in a press release. “However, more important than the excitement was the comments from individuals that said the contest made them really stop and think where they decided to spend their money. I think the real success of the campaign comes from the number of individuals we educated and changed habits on where they spend their dollars.”
