The Missouri Department of Transportation will be shutting down the east and westbound lanes of U.S. 50 Highway at Interstate-470 for bridge deck maintenance from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. July 13.
The maintenance work is being performed above U.S. 50 highway where I-470 intersects the highway, but falling debris from the bridge works requires the closure of both sets of lanes. Both lanes of I-470 will be open; the shutdown only affects U.S. 50, but delays are expected on I-470 also.
Drivers will be required to detour around the affected area. Drivers on eastbound U.S. 50 approaching from Colbern Road will be diverted onto I-470 westbound and taken down to the View High Drive exit. There, they can come back westbound on I-470 and re-enter U.S. 50 highway in the eastbound lanes, east of the affected area.
For drivers that are traveling westbound and approaching from Chipman Road, they will be exited onto eastbound I-470 and turned around at the Douglas Street exit to detour around the area.
Drivers are asked to avoid the area if possible as delays are expected in the detour areas with the additional traffic volume. Officers with the Lee’s Summit Police Department will be on-scene in the detour area to assist with traffic control and monitor traffic flow.
