LaVeta Becker

LaVeta Nellie (Klein) Becker, age 83, of Lee’s Summit, passed away July 12, 2013.

She was born July 31, 1929 in Rosamond, Ill. She was a 1947 graduate of Pana High School. She married James L. Becker in 1958 in Decatur, Ill. and moved to Lake Lotawana, in 1969. She retired from Western Electric in 1984.

She was a member of Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church, the Women’s Steering Committee and St. Joseph’s Guild. Her hobbies included gardening, cooking and socializing with the Widow’s Group at church, but most of all she enjoyed her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; brothers, John Klein and Kenneth Klein, sisters Irene Wolf and Dorothy Mickey, stepson, Bruce Becker, granddaughter Jennifer Becker and great-grandson Luke Weatherby.

Survivors include her children and their spouses; Jamie Phillips (Dennis), John Becker (Rhonda) and James Becker (Becky), daughter-in-law, Connie Becker, Decatur, Ill.; sister, Virginia Kuhn (Bob), Oconee, Ill., brother-in-law, Joe Mickey, Schaumburg, Ill., sisters-in-law Donna Klein, Lake Pana, Ill. and Lorraine Klein, Ohlman, Ill; grandchildren-Brian Becker, Becky Bryson, Stephanie Phillips, Jessica Becker, Sarah Weatherby (Roy), Ryan Becker, Kristen Becker, Lauren Becker, Melissa Becker, Erin Becker and great-granddaughter, Alana Bryson.

A celebration of life was held July 15 with inurnment in the Blue Springs Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church or the Salvation Army.
