SHIRLEY ANN (DEPKE) WHITE
Shirley Ann (Depke) White, age 77, Lee’s Summit, passed away on July 15, 2013.
Shirley was born May 8, 1936, to Otto J. and Lydia E. (Walter) Depke, in Fremont County, near Shenandoah, Iowa. She grew up in a home that was a former stagecoach stop, attended Manti and Nishna Valley Country Schools, and graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1954. Shirley then began a 10-year career at the Credit Bureau Federation of Shenandoah, where she earned the honor of "Miss Efficiency, 1961-1962."
She met her true love, Don, and they married April 12, 1964 at the First Methodist Church in Shenandoah, Iowa. They had two children, Russell and Karee. Shirley’s greatest love was her family, but was also devoted to her church, community and friends.
The highlights of her church and community involvements have touched lives in Shenandoah, Des Moines and Ankeny, Iowa, as well as Maryville, Mo., Jefferson City and Lee’s Summit, including: 4-H; served as church secretary at Fort Des Moines United Methodist Church, Des Moines; Sunday School teacher; United Methodist Women, Circle Chair and helped with many church events; Welcome Wagon; Newcomers and X-Club; Meals on Wheels; volunteer for several hospital auxiliaries; served as bookkeeper at the United Methodist Church, Maryville, Mo.; proud member of P.E.O. – past President, officer and member of Chapter LI, Jefferson City and past chair and member of Chapter ET, Lee’s Summit.
Shirley was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was active with Don’s work, often helping with product demos at Hy-Vee for over 22 years; when her children were young, she attended and helped with their activities such as Girl Scouts or driving baseball teams to their out-of-town games; and attending her granddaughter’s events and practices. Anyone who knew Shirley knew she was fond of entertaining and cooking. She is known for the beautiful parties she hosted–either for Don and work events, church or organization meetings, bridge and card games, or for family and friends; as well as helping anyone in need.
Shirley and Don enjoyed traveling; whether visiting their family or touring most of the United States–including several other countries. Shirley felt fortunate to be able to travel this great world, especially with Don beside her.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Mary Jean Krull.
She is survived by her husband, Don, of 49 years; son, Russell (Rhonda) White of Parker, Colo.; daughter, Karee White of West Des Moines, Iowa; granddaughters, Sydney and Samantha; niece, Carla (Dan) van Ingen of Milan, Mo.; nephews, Kenny Krull of Shenandoah, Iowa, and Johnny Krull of Midland, Texas; great nephew, Captain Dirk van Ingen, U.S. Army, Ft.
