Echoes

July 24, 2013

listen

ask questions

then listen

trying to

see life

from the point

on which

others stand

to view it

this person says

i have

worked hard

the poor are

just too lazy

to accept

available

employment

that person says

i hold down

two part time

jobs

and still cant

make ends meet

for my family

someone exclaims

the president

is a hero

another

he is a lout

not to mention

the matter of

buddhist

muslim

christian

hindu

jew

which point

for viewing

life is true

who dares

balance

on that thin

wire

stretched

between

all vast

divides

reach

to each

invite

lets meet

out here

we have

been right

and we

have been

wrong

but our

former worlds

are gone

we cant go back

that possibility

is sheer fantasy

our only hope

is holding on

together

above

the gorge

realizing

we are

human beings

we live and die

not always clear

about why

we may play

this game

as opponents

or partners

until

the last deal

goes down

if our minds

and hearts

remain closed

to any view

but our own

we are dead

already

so it really

doesnt matter
