I have said from the beginning that in Lee’s Summit, neighborhood watch coordinators are trained to call the police when something suspicious happens. We are warned not to follow but be observant. The thing is that sometimes what we see as irrational behavior may have another cause. I remember once when I made a left turn and was hit by a car that I could have been characterized as a careless driver and perhaps I was, but moments before I had just found out that my two best friends were getting a divorce and I sat with the woman as I watched her crumble before my eyes. To say that my vision was clouded with tears is closer to the truth. How many times have we seen offensive behavior and not found out the cause? To say that we are too quick to judge is an understatement. Fear is our enemy. Understanding and communication are the remedies to fear. Some fear is justified. Some is not. Please give me the wisdom to know the difference.
