Echoes

July 26, 2013

we went from

kindergarten

through

fifth grade

same

classroom

then

swam

soccered

high school

basketball

i still remember

after prom

popular

good students

we even worked

fast food together

one summer

made different

college choices

both of us

a little stressed

financially

didnt see

each other

often

after that

occasionally

at same party

or concert

in a store

streetside

until

that day

i heard what

happened

how could

she or he

do something

like that

everybody asks

the question

sometime

about a friend

family member

work

neighborhood

community

acquaintance

for the honest

self reflective

person

another query

may come next

could i ever

do that

given certain

circumstances

experiences

relationships

of what

might i

be capable

for good

or ill

we are the most

complicated

life form

in this creation

i didnt see

that coming

is more than

a baseball cliché

lots of ways

while

looking for

a fast ball

thrown a

curve

strike three

or how did i

hit that thing

out of here

home run

didnt believe

i could do that

there is always

at least

one surprise

left
