The Missouri Department of Transportation is postponing the shutdown of 50 highway at I-470 highway for repairs.
The shutdown for bridge deck maintenance and painting now is scheduled for Aug. 9-12, MoDOT said in a written statement.
All lanes of U.S. 50 Highway will be shutdown from 10 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9 through 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12.
The maintenance work is U.S. 50 where Interstate 470 intersects with the highway. Falling debris from the bridge requires the closure of both sets of lanes. Both lanes of I-470 will be open, the shutdown only affects U.S. 50 highway, but delays are expected on I-470.
Drivers will be required to detour around the affected area.
Drivers on eastbound U.S. 50 approaching from Colbern Road will be diverted to I-470 westbound, taken down to the View High Drive exit, and there can come back westbound on I-470 and re-enter U.S. 50’s eastbound lanes, east of the affected area.
For drivers who are traveling westbound and approaching from Chipman Road, they will exit onto eastbound I-470 and turn around at the Douglas Street exit to detour around the area.
Drivers are asked to avoid the detour area if possible as delays are expected with the additional traffic volume.
Lee’s Summit Police Department will be on the scene to assist with traffic control and monitor traffic flow.
