A lighting strike caused minor damage to a home in Lee’s Summit
According the Lee’s Summit Fire Department, fire personnel responded to a reported structure fire just before the morning rush hour Aug. 7 at 2613 S.W. 10th Street. The homeowner reported a possible lightning strike to the house with smoke visible on the second floor.
When the fire department arrived, light smoke was coming from the roof of a two-story, single family residence. All occupants were outside.
Firefighters had to pull down portions of the vaulted second floor ceilings to get to the fire burning in the concealed spaces of the attic. Once the fire was out, crews checked the area for any additional fire spread. The incident was under control by 7:40 a.m.
Fire damage was contained to the attic. An investigation confirmed the fire was started by a lightning strike to the house.
