A 22-year-old Lake Lotawana man has been charged in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced Aug. 12.

Codey J. Everhart faces charges of forcible rape and two counts of statutory rape in the first degree.

According to court records, a Jackson County Sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to a Lake Lotawana home where the victim reported she had been raped by Everhart, a neighbor.

After she let him into her home to use the restroom, she told police, he grabbed her and threw her down and had sexual intercourse with her against her will. She struggled until she got away, hid and later ran to a friend’s house, she said.

The defendant sent the victim’s mother a text message saying he was sorry. He told police he went to the home with the intention of having physical contact but said he didn’t have full sexual intercourse with her

Prosecutors requested a $250,000 cash-only bond.
