Loretta I. Hoke Freeland

Loretta Hoke passed away on Aug. 7, 2013 in her home after a lengthy illness.

Loretta was born Feb. 21, 1938. She was the oldest daughter of Ben and Viola Hoke who preceded her in death.

Loretta was an elementary educator. She taught and served Raytown schools and later retired from the Crestridge School District in Warrensburg. She sang in her church choir and taught Primary Grade Sunday School for many years.

Loretta is survived by her husband, David, of the home; her sister, Janet Jensen of Blue Springs; her brother, Ben Hoke of Kansas City; a daughter, Lynne Nelson of Kansas City; a son John Freeland of Warrensburg and three grandchildren; Jamie Nelson, Heather Nelson and Joseph Freeland.

In accordance with Loretta’s wishes, all useful organs and tissue has been donated to the Mid-America Organ and Tissue Bank, cremation followed the donation.

A gathering of family and all friends for a Memorial Service and Dinner will take place at Ophelia’s Restaurant, 206 N. Main in Independence on Aug. 18, from 1:30-4 p.m. For those unable to attend the Memorial Service and meal, the family will hold an Open House from 4-7 p.m. on Aug. 17 at their home.

Per Loretta’s wishes the family suggests in lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contribution in her memory to the Raytown High School Class of ’56 Scholarship Fund.
