Girl Scout open house Aug. 18

August 16, 2013

Girl Scout Friends –old and new– will gather for a karaoke songfest, pizza snacks and crafts to kick off the new Girl Scout year.

Lee’s Summit Girl Scout Service Unit 649 is hosting an open house 2 to 4 p.m., Aug. 18 at the Masonic Lodge, 2409 S Missouri 291. The open house is free to all girls and families interested in learning more about Girl Scouting to connect with area troops and register.

Girl Scouting helps girls to discover the fun, friendship, and power of girls together. They grow courageous and strong through experiences such as extraordinary field trips, badge work and skill-building clinics, community service projects and overnight camp-outs.

They develop values, learn to relate to others with increasing understanding, skill and respect and contribute to society through leadership skills and cooperation with others.

Girl Scouting is available to girls in grades kindergarten through high school senior.

Service Unit 649 serves the following schools within the Lee’s Summit area: Cedar Creek Elementary, Lee’s Summit Elementary, Lee’s Summit West High School, Our Lady of the Presentation School, Pleasant Lea Elementary, Pleasant Lea Middle School, Summit Christian Academy, Westview Elementary and Woodland Elementary.

Any Lee’s Summit girl interested in Girl Scouting is welcome to stop by regardless of what school she attends, the leaders will help them connect with other troops in the community.

Lee's Summit Journal is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. Some of the comments may be reprinted elsewhere in the site or in the newspaper. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point.
