Lee’s Summit Sunrise Rotary Club

7:15 a.m., Emaline Ballroom – Every Friday morning you are cordially invited to attend the Lee’s Summit Sunrise Rotary at the Emaline Ballroom, 616 SW Third St. You will have the opportunity to meet our many business members, have breakfast provided by local restaurateurs and hear an interesting program. Food Drive - Helping Hands Food Pantry

10 a.m. Cockrell Mercantile, Deep Woods & Rustic Décor & Log Cabin Antiques Team Up – They will be accepting non-perishable food items to support the Helping Hands Food Pantry at all three locations. Aug. 16-18.

Music in the Park

6:30 p.m., Howard Station Park – “Scott Devouton & Friends” (blues/jamgrass) “Copper Creek Band” (classic rock/blues). Enjoy free Friday night concerts from Memorial Day to Labor Day in Howard Station Park in Downtown Lee’s Summit. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on.

Aug. 17

Farmers Market

7 a.m., corner of Second and Douglas streets – Every Wednesday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to sell out, shoppers can get some of the freshest produce in town. For more information, call 816-246-6598.

Rattle and Hum concert

8 p.m., (gates open at 7 p.m.) Legacy Park Amphitheater, 901 NE Bluestem Drive – Lee’s Summit Parks & Recreation invites you to enjoy being under the stars with a lake side view of the “Premier U2 Tribute”, Rattle and Hum. Tickets are on sale now through 5pm on August 17 for $5 each. Tickets may be purchased at Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation’s main office, Legacy Park Community Center, Harris Park Community Center or Gamber Center.  At the gate tickets can be purchased for $7.  Food and Beverage Vendors will be onsite. No pets or glass containers will be allowed inside the concert area.

Al-Anon

Noon, First Presbyterian Church of Lee’s Summit, 1625 NW O’Brien Road – Is someone’s drinking causing you problems? Come to Al-Anon and join friends and family of alcoholics. The group meets weekly at noon on Mondays and 7:30 p.m. Thursdays.

Homemade ice cream social

5-6:30 p.m., American Legion Post No. 189, 820 SE Vista Drive – All you care to eat, includes hot dogs, chips, dessert, drinks including pop and homemade ice cream. Adults $6.50, kids 12 and under $3.50.

Compulsive Eaters Anonymous HOW

5:30 p.m. Mondays, First Presbyterian Church, 1625 NW O’Brien Road.

Aug. 20

Linus

1-3 p.m., Hobby Lobby, 1015 Northeast Rice Road

Bring your sewing machine and help make small quilts for Linus to give to children in the hospital.

Helping Hands of the Willing Workers

1 p.m., Longview Chapel Christian Church, 850 SW Longview Road – Join a weekly group that makes crafts and sews for the benefit of the church. The Helping Hands make items throughout the year to earn money for the building fund and make cheer baskets for the homebound. The group invites anyone looking for fellowship, fun and those who enjoy creating items, to join them. The group furnishes all supplies and is always looking for new ideas. Lee’s Summit Downtown Rotary Club

4:45 p.m., Lee’s Summit Firefighters Union Hall, 322 SE Douglas St. – The club’s mission is to meet the charitable needs of the local community and participate in worldwide humanitarian causes by utilizing the energy and dedication of its members. Kiwanis Club

6 p.m., Lakeside Dining Room at John Knox Village – The Kiwanis invite you to join them as they volunteer their time to serving the children of the world. The Lee’s Summit chapter of the Kiwanis are dedicated to service projects including sponsoring little league baseball and softball teams, assisting with Hope House, providing scholarships and other projects. Fear Not Support Group 

7 p.m., Tuesday evenings, New Summit Presbyterian Church 1800 NE Independence – Fear Not Support Group is a Christ-Centered support group for anxiety and depression. Material is based on the Christian 12 Steps also Anxiety Centre  http://www.anxietycentre.com/, also “The Anxiety/Phobia Workbook” by Edmund Bourne.

Nimble Thimbles Quilt Guild

6:30 p.m., Duncan Estates Community Building, 633 S.W. Burry St. –Come join fellow area quilters for a trunk show of quilts finished by members of the guild this year.
