Lee’s Summit North took home the team title in their own tennis tournament held Aug. 31 at Lee’s Summit North.
The Broncos finished first out of seven teams with a score of 44 points, followed by Lee’s Summit in second with 37 points. Lee’s Summit West placed sixth with 16 points.
In A Singles, Alexandra Mesias placed first by defeating Harrisonville’s Cassie Long 10-5 in the championship match.
Mesias beat Lee’s Summit West’s Elizabeth Hunt 10-0 in the first round and defeated Belton’s Kaitlyn Gooch 10-3 in the semifinals.
Hunt finished seventh in A Singles. Lee’s Summit’s McKenzie Kramer placed sixth with an 8-0 loss to Truman’s Shelby Calfas.
In A Doubles, Lee’s Summit duo Tess Herder and Amelia Gooch finished first, defeating Lee’s Summit North’s Sarah Welsh and Erica Sullivan 10-1 in the championship match.
Herder and Gooch had a bye in the first round, but took down Madeline Brady and Meghan Martin of Lee’s Summit West 10-0 in the semifinals. Welsh and Sullivan beat Felecia Cumons and Emily Argotsinger of Raymore-Peculiar 10-2 in the first round and defeated Truman 10-0 in the semifinals.
Brady and Martin placed third with an 8-2 victory over Truman.
In B Singles, Lee’s Summit North’s Emily Dent finished first with a 10-0 defeated over Lee’s Summit’s Lindsey Mayberry in the championship round. Lee’s Summit West’s Julia Munsell took fourth place, losing to Raymore-Peculiar’s Grace Fowler 8-0 in the third place match.
In B Doubles, Lee’s Summit’s Abbie Cook and Madi Huser defeated Lee’s Summit North’s Emily Kershner and Bailey Hamilton 10-4 in the championship match.
Lee’s Summit West’s Sierra Hartman and Emily Mount placed seventh.
