R-7 Citizens’ Advisory Committee accepting applications for new members

September 4, 2013

The Lee’s Summit R-7 School District Citizens’ Advisory Committee is accepting applications for membership. The approximately 40-member team is an advisory council organized to make recommendations to the R-7 Board of Education.

The Citizens’ Advisory Committee mission is to facilitate communication, advise and partner with the Board of Education, superintendent and community to ensure a successful and innovative school system that maximizes each student’s potential. The organization originally formed in 1952 and was reorganized several years ago.

Citizens’ Advisory Committee chairperson is Kent Kirby, and assistant chairperson is Elaine Bluml. Its membership includes citizens representing many walks of life, including the Board of Education, Lee’s Summit Economic Development Council, Chamber of Commerce, PTA, R-7 staff members, the banking industry, higher education, health care, small business, parents and non-parents.

The group meets approximately four to six times annually with meetings held on weekday evenings, usually from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the Stansberry Leadership Center. The first meeting for the 2013-14 school year will be Oct. 29.

If you are interested in applying for membership for the 2013-14 school year, please contact Janice Phelan of the R-7 School District at janice.phelan@leesummit.k12.mo.us to request an application. Applications are due by Sept. 27. The Citizens’ Advisory Committee Steering Committee will review all applications and select several new members for the team.
