KARY TODD HOCKER, SR.

Kary Todd Hocker, Sr., 51, of Lee’s Summit, died unexpectedly on Sept. 2, 2013 while biking in James A. Reed Memorial Wildlife Area.

Kary was born to Lyle and Beverly (Whitaker) Hocker on Aug. 5, 1962 in Clinton, Mo. He graduated from Lee’s Summit High School in 1980 and was a graduate of Central Missouri State University. In 1988 he married his high school sweetheart, Becki Kempf. They were married for 20 years at the time of her death in 2009. They were blessed by the birth of their son, Kary Todd Hocker, Jr. in 1991.

Kary will be remembered as a caring and hard-working man. At the age of 16 he began working at the Mitch Crawford Auto Group and advanced from washing cars into various management positions in his 27 year career there. He also worked at American Food Service and Blue Ridge Mazda. Kary had a loyal following of customers who relied on his honest business approach.

Kary enjoyed his second home at Truman Lake and 4-wheeling in the Colorado Mountains. He also had a love and appreciation of cars and proudly owned a 1970 Plymouth Road Runner Convertible. More than anything, Kary will be remembered for his kindness and his keen sense of humor. He will be sadly missed by his group of diverse friends and large extended family. The words of many who knew Kary come to mind, “We’ve lost a truly nice guy.”

Kary was preceded in death by his wife, Becki Hocker. He is survived by his son, Todd, Lee’s Summit; parents, Lyle and Beverly Hocker of Lee’s Summit; brother, Kevin Hocker and sister-in-law, Mary Hocker of Bates City; nephew, Colby Hocker of Winston, Mo.; brother-in-law, Paul Warning, sister-in-law, Terri Warning and niece, Lindsay Warning of Lee’s Summit.

Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 7, at Langsford Funeral Home. The funeral will begin at 3:30 p.m., followed by a graveside service at Lee’s Summit Cemetery.
