Cyclist injured in accident

Lee’s Summit police are still investigation an accident that caused serious injuries to a bicyclist.

According to Lee’s Summit Police Sgt. Chris Depue, the department’s spokesman, police responded at around 7:15 p.m. Sept. 3 to the area of Colbern Road east of Douglas Street on a single car accident involving a bicyclist.

The bicyclist, a 17-year-old male from Lee’s Summit, was heading westbound in the westbound lanes of Colbern approaching Douglas when he was struck from behind by a car that was also traveling westbound.

The driver indicated that due to the sunshine glare, she was unable to see the cyclist in the roadway. The cyclist was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.

The accident is still under investigation and no citations have been issued in the case.

The driver was identified as a 28-year-old Lee’s Summit woman and the cyclist was identified as Bradley Hierseman, also of Lee’s Summit.
