R-7 School District offering free day trip Oct. 23 for senior citizens to tour Pleasant Lea Elementary

September 18, 2013

Area senior citizens are invited to participate in the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District’s fall community-wide Senior Citizens’ School Tour, scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 23 at Pleasant Lea Elementary School.

Pleasant Lea Elementary School opened in 1966 with major additions completed in 2000 and 2002. Principal is Patricia Alexander, and assistant principal is Derrick Hartley.

The district’s tour program received first place in the American School Board Journal’s Magna Awards program in 2010. The school tour is free for all interested senior citizens, although reservations are required. Space is limited, so it is recommended that you make your reservation early. Deadline to sign up for the tour is Oct. 11.

The event includes a tour of Pleasant Lea Elementary, a school lunch and student performance. Tour starts and ends at the school, 700 SW Persels Road. Those attending are asked to arrive at the school a few minutes before 10:30 a.m. Participants must have the ability to do some walking within the school and are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes. Several rest breaks will be provided.

The tour for senior citizens is part of the R-7 School District’s Comprehensive School Improvement Plan and was recommended by a community team. To make a reservation or for more information, please contact the R-7 School District Communications Department at 986-1014 or e-mail janie.rohlfing@leesummit.k12.mo.us by Oct. 11.
