Juvenile briefly unaccounted for at Hilltop

September 19, 2013

A juvenile briefly unaccounted for at the Hilltop Residential Center caused the Lakewood security office to alert its resident about a possible escape, but the juvenile was back in custody before a report with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department could be filed.

A Lakewood security office official confirmed that a warning went out Sept. 17, but referred questions to the Lee’s Summit Police Department which in turned referred questions to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department who was responsible for investigating the situation at the county-ran facility for juvenile offenders.

Messages left for Hilltop officials seeking comment were unreturned.

“The Sheriff’s Office has no record of receiving a call regarding an escape from Hilltop that occurred on 9-18-2013,” Ronda Montgomery, public information officer for the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said in an email.
