Christopher Haggerty of Lee’s Summit was awarded the 2013 Young Dental Alum of the Year by the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s School of Dentistry for his efforts in the oral surgery field.

Haggerty spent eight years attending UMKC, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in biological sciences from 1994 to 1998 and his DDS degree from 1998 to 2002.

Haggerty left the area for awhile to pursue a combined Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery/MD integrated residency at Louisiana State University-New Orleans School of Medicine from 2002 to 2005 and then completed an internship in General Surgery/Neurosurgery at LSU Medical Center Charity Hospital in New Orleans in 2006.

After he returned to the area in 2011, Haggerty established Lakewood Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Lee’s Summit. Before exiting Louisiana, however, Haggerty was awarded the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Community Service Award in 2006 for his actions during Hurricane Katrina.

Haggerty is the current president of the greater Kansas City Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Society and the Eastern Jackson County Dental Society. He was awarded the Young Dental Alum of the Year award during a Midwest Dental Conference in April.
