Lee’s Summit West High School football, baseball and volleyball teams are adopting the YMCA Challenger program as part of the students’ community-service efforts. Challenger is designed for children and young adults with special needs, providing various athletic opportunities. All teams are coached by volunteers.

LSWHS football players are currently paired with Challenger participants in a flag football competition. The football players are also volunteering to help with bowling teams. The LSWHS baseball team is assisting with the Challenger baseball session, and LSW volleyball players are helping with net sports, including both tennis and volleyball.

“The time spent with these participants has been extremely rewarding for the LSW athletes,” said Royce Boehm, LSW football coach. “We look forward to working with the Challenger Program for years to come!”
