The proclamation honored LSWHS for the school’s selection as a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. Only nine schools in Missouri and just two in the Kansas City metropolitan area were selected for this prestigious award. The National Blue Ribbon Schools award honors public and private elementary, middle and high schools where students perform at very high levels or where significant improvements are being made in students’ levels of achievement. LSWHS, the first National Blue Ribbon School in the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District, was recognized as “exemplary high performing.”
