Dear Mayor Rhoads,
In January 2014, MoDOT will open a short window of opportunity for the City to apply for matching funds to improve the MO 50/291S interchange. On behalf of the Lee’s Summit Gateway Business Alliance, we ask for your support of the most expeditious way for the City to find its matching share so that it may seize this opportunity.
Lee’s Summit is not the only community competiting for these matching funds, and by committing to our share sooner rather than later, our commitment will boost Lee’s Summit’s rank on the list for these much-sought-after-funds. We believe the future commercial and industrial development opportunities which have thus far been constricted by the choke point at the MO 50/291S interchange, will, upon completion, pay back the City’s share many times over. Furthermore, new development will help balance our tax base and offset some of the burdens that commercial development supports so heartily.
As Co-chairs of the LSGBA, we believe your continued efforts to make these much-needed interchange improvements are within your grasp. As you may remember, the LSGBA consists of executives/owners from over 20 Lee’s Summit economic-driver companies who collectively employ nearly 3,000 people and pay taxes which contribute millions of dollars annually to the community. The US 50/MO 291 interchange was one of the primary causes behind the creation of the LSGBA over seven years ago. We have waited a long time to get to this point and want to help you make this community priority a reality. The LSGBA is staffed by the Lee’s Summit Economic Development Council, and our community partners join us in support of these interchange improvements.
Thank you, and feel free to contact us in support of making these improvements a reality.
Chip Moxley and Will Coates, co-chairs for Lee’s Summit Gateway Business Alliance
