It is no question why the KC Elite Blue 14U is ranked as one of the top squads in their division, as they seem to add one highlight after the next in an already impressive season.
The squad from Lee’s Summit captured their third USSSA tournament this season at the Fall Classic after a thrilling victory in the final game. Sean Johnson was one of the many heroes, as his go-ahead RBI double in late innings led the Kansas City Elite to a 7-6 victory over the Kansas Redlegs.
The rally came in the bottom of the fourth after the Elite trailed 6-2 against the Redlegs in the four-inning game. Jordan Mendenhall picked up the win in relief of William Finch, who started and Johnson drove in two for the offense.
KC won all three matches in the series, opening up game one with a 4-0 no-hitter against the Mac-N-Seitz Red Sox. Three KC pitchers were credited including Mendenhall, Joe Oswald, and Finch. Chris Liggett had a huge RBI double.
The Elite followed up in game two with a 5-0 shutout over the Kansas Redlegs. Jaycob Larson picked up 3 RBIs in the game and Liggett pitched 4.0 shutout innings for the victory.
Their pitching performance adds to a strong first month for the staff, who have contributed to a 2.00 ERA in the last eight games.
The previous tournament wins came in the Briley Sonics Blast and the Dakota Sunflower Shootout earlier in the month.
Manager Roderick Myers has his Blue team coming out and competing at a high level. Their victory makes it three USSSA titles and four overall. The Elite are running with a 16-0 fall record.
