Swinging to state

The entire Lee’s Summit West golf team has earned a spot at the Class 2 state tournament.

The Titans placed second in the Class 2, Sectional 3 tournament held Oct. 14 at Marshfield Country Club. The team shot a 349, to place behind Warrensburg in first with 318.

Leading Lee’s Summit West was Mason Fender, who tied for 13th with a score of 81, followed by Madi Smythia in 16th with a score of 85.

Emily Doak tied for 24th with a score of 90, Courtney Rosencrants took 31st with a score of 93 and Nikki Ehlinger placed 41st with a score of 101.

Both Lee’s Summit North and Lee’s Summit qualified one golfer each for state at the Class 2, Sectional 4 tournament held Oct. 14 at Winterstone Golf Course, Independence.

The Broncos took fourth as a team with a score of 418, behind Blue Springs in first with 347, Notre Dame de Sion in second with 348 and Liberty in third with 387. The Lee’s Summit North golfer going to state is Lindsey Graham, who tied for 20th with a score of 97.

Lee’s Summit did not have a team score, but was led by qualifying golfer Skylar Brunk, who tied for 12th with a score of 92.

Other Bronco golfers competing were Brianna Combs in 34th with a score of 106, Madison Couts in 37th with 107 and Betsy Bartle in 41st with 108. Lee’s Summit’s Kaitlyn Grainger finished in 47th wit a score of 113.

The Class 2 state tournament will be held Oct. 21-22 at Meadow Lake Acres Country Club, New Bloomfield.

Summit Christian Academy’s Olivia Blumer competed in the Class 1, Sectional 2 tournament held Oct. 14 at Shirkey Golf Course, Odessa, but did not qualify for state. Blumer took 24th with a score of 105.
