Do you want your taxes raised?

October 30, 2013

Dear Editor,

On Nov. 5, there is an election in Jackson County with just one question on the ballot: Do you want your taxes raised? Here are two points to consider.

1. The sole purpose of this tax increase is to subsidize a huge university, a life sciences research institute and two very profitable hospitals chains.

2. The tax is set for 20 years, but at the end of that 20 years, you can be assured that the paid lobbyists for this tax increase will promote extending the tax as a “no-tax-increase” issue. Personally, I see no reason why I should subsidize these extremely successful world-class organizations, and I’m voting no on Nov. 5. I urge everyone to do the same.

Cordially,
