The Tigers, seeded No. 4 in the Class 4, District 13 tournament at Raymore-Peculiar, took down No. 5 seeded Belton 25-21 and 25-23.

Lee’s Summit got off to a quick 6-0 lead in the first game, but Belton slowly worked its way back to close the gap at 7-6. The Tigers kept the lead until the Pirates knotted the score at 16-16 and again at 17-17.

The Tigers responded as Belton had an error and Lee’s Summit senior Megan Iversen got a kill to make the score 19-17. After an ace from sophomore Amy Simonin and a kill from junior Emma Lock, the Tigers led 21-17.

With the score at 23-21, Iversen got a kill and Belton’s Bethany Elkins spiked the ball out of bounds to end the game.

The second game was a different story, as the Pirates bounded to a 5-2 advantage. The Tigers fought back to tie the score at 6-6 and the match stayed close until Belton started taking a lead.

The Pirates led 19-14 and Lee’s Summit battled back starting with a kill from sophomore Cassidi Sterrett. Junior Kate Ward got an ace and Belton made two errors to close the gap to 19-18.

Iversen had a kill error, but it was followed by an error from the Pirates and a block by Lee’s Summit junior Hailey Criswell to tie the score at 20-20.

With the score tied again at 23-23, the Tigers finished the game with a kill from Criswell and a kill from Lock.
