LS police chief announces retirement

Lee's Summit JournalNovember 1, 2013

After more than 30 years with the Lee’s Summit Police Department, Police Chief Joe Piccinini announced Oct. 31 that he will retire from the force, effective Jan. 17, 2014.

“As I was approaching 30 years as a police officer, obviously I was considering retirement,” Piccinini said Oct. 31, just minutes after the announcement. “I’ve been talking with my family about the possibility of retirement, but was trying to figure out when. There is not really ever a really good time to do it. In talking with my family, we felt like now is a real good time for us and what we’re doing as a family.”

This is a breaking news story. Please check and Nov. 6’s print edition of the Lee’s Summit Journal for a more extensive story on Piccinini’s retirement.
