LSNHS students attend Future Leaders Academy

November 8, 2013

In 2012, the U.S. Congressional district lines changed due to the 2010 Census, and the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District found itself split between the Fifth Congressional District (Rep. Emanuel Cleaver II) and the new Sixth Congressional District (Rep. Sam Graves).

Nearly half of the students at Lee’s Summit North High School now reside in the Sixth District.

Due to this change, students at Lee’s Summit North High School were invited to the 2013 Sam Graves’ Future Leaders Academy, held Oct. 16 at William Jewell College in Liberty.

Nine students, selected by the LSN social studies staff, represented the school at this event. They were Jasmine Jefferies, Gus Galarnyk, Cameron Elbert, Jonghae Lee, Spencer Voiss, Caitlin McCord, Victoria Kelley, Jesse Dinkins and Seth Brown.

Students at the academy had opportunities to listen and pose questions to round-table discussions on the Second Amendment, immigration and national healthcare. Students were accompanied by assistant principal Kim Hawley.
