Avila University’s Zach Herzig, a 2010 graduate of Lee’s Summit High School, was an integral part of the men’s soccer program this season.

He helped the Eagles qualify for the Heart of America Athletic Conference tournament for the first time since joining the conference in 2001.

Avila University earned a NO. 6 seed after getting a 0-0 draw against Graceland University, with help from Herzig and other defenders.

Herzig, a senior, was named to the All-HAAC third team. He was a four-year starter and was key to the defense this season, locking down attackers on the right side, while also serving as team captain. He scored his first career goal this season against Culver-Stockton University and converted a penalty kick against Baker University just two weeks later. He started all 72 games while at Avila University.

Herzig lettered all four years at Lee’s Summit High School.
