Broncos earn third at state swim meet

The Lee’s Summit North swim team finished third out of 44 teams at the state championship meet Nov. 15-16 at City of St. Peters Rec-Plex.

“It is easy to say that this swim and dive season was by far the best Lee's Summit North season in history,” Lee’s Summit North head coach Danielle Russell said. “It wasn't just the talent and hard work though, it was their heart. Their hard work has gotten them to the point where their biggest competition is actually themselves, that is success.”

The Broncos had a team score of 161 points, behind Rockhurst in first with 220 points and Blue Springs South in second with 163 points.

Lee’s Summit North senior Ethan Bresette finished first in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1 minute, 51.17 seconds. Bresette also took second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:26.49.

The 400-yard freestyle relay team of junior Michael Hynes, sophomore Thomas Reilly, senior James White and Bresette took first with a time of 3:09.91 and the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Hynes, junior Zach Littell, White and Bresette placed second with a time of 1:26.71.

Hynes also took fifth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:43.58 and sixth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 47.09 seconds.

White finished 11th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.96 and 12th in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.52. Sophomore Josh Littell finished 12th in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 53.92, followed by Zach Littell in 13th with 54.02.

Freshman Daniel Valmassei took 15th in the 1-meter diving event with a score of 283.9 points. Junior Thomas Faulkenberry placed 16th in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 55.13.

Junior Brennen Dooley placed 30th in the 1-meter diving preliminaries with a score of 117.45 points.

Lee’s Summit West took 40th as a team with a score of 6 points.

Senior Ben Peterson took 15th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.26 and 14th in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.78.

Senior Nick Underwood finished 21st in the 1-meter diving preliminaries with a score of 133.5 points, followed by senior Alek Underwood in 27th with a score of 125.7 points.

Lee’s Summit freshman Sam Drew took 29th in the 200-yard IM preliminaries with a time of 2:06.92 and 30th in the 100-yard breaststroke preliminaries with a time of 1:03.81.
