Pleasant Lea Middle School honors Veterans Day

December 4, 2013

LSHS Air Force Junior ROTC members present the colors at the PLMS event honoring veterans.

Pleasant Lea Middle School students and staff members honored family and friends who are veterans on Veterans Day Nov. 11.

Through student projects, PLMS created a “Hallway of Honor,” which featured photos, biographies and other information about the veterans being recognized by students.

A reception was hosted in the school commons, and items were collected for soldiers currently deployed through Adopt-a-Box. Local officials attending the reception included Lee’s Summit Mayor Randy Rhoads and Missouri Sen. Will Kraus as well as representatives from the local Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Veterans attending received a “thank-you” bracelet from students and signed the school’s Wall of Honor.

The Lee’s Summit High School Air Force Junior ROTC color guard presented the colors at this event, and the National Anthem was performed by members of the PLMS orchestra. The event was organized by social studies teachers at the school.
