Hobby Lobby will open a new store in Lee’s Summit on Jan. 1. The 38,000 square foot store will be at 901 E. Langsford in what was formerly a Food Barn Grocery. Hobby Lobby, which has its corporate headquarters in Oklahoma City, will employ 35 to 40 people. Hobby Lobby has grown from one store in Oklahoma City in 1972 into the country’s most complete arts and crafts retail operation.
Karen Messerli is beginning her campaign to be Lee’s Summit’s next mayor. She is currently in her fifth year on the Board of Aldermen, said the strength she would bring to the mayor’s office is experience through leadership.
Earl Willoughby, a football star at Lee’s Summit High School, was pictured in the Journal holding a copy of the Journal. He served with Company A, 32nd Infantry Division during the Korean War. The photo was taken on Oct. 6, 1952 – a month before he was killed at Pork Chop Hill.
