DAR chapter provides coupons for military

December 18, 2013

The Overseas Coupon Program is an important ongoing project of the Prairie Chapter NSDAR. It involves the cutting and sorting of thousands of coupons from many sources, which are then packaged and mailed to the U.S. Naval Base in Yokosuka, Japan. The servicemen

and women stationed there may redeem the coupons for items at the base stores. Since this is a huge time commitment, the Prairie Chapter is fortunate to have a partner in this project, students in the Life Skills Class and the G.R.E.A.T. Program Learning Center (Gaining Real Life Experience

and Training) at Lee’s Summit North High School. Coupons are also contributed by members of the Children of the American Revolution local affiliate and some residents of John Knox Village also help to clip coupons for the Prairie Chapter overseas coupon program. In 2013 the total number of coupons Prairie Chapter has mailed to the Base in Japan has totaled 204,833, which are valued at $307,449.54. Many people contribute coupons to this worthwhile project, which is greatly appreciated by the military servicemen overseas. It is another example of the patriotic and service missions of the Prairie Chapter NSDAR.
