Ron Cox, Lee’s Summit R-7 School District director of purchasing and distribution, was named the Purchasing Director of the Year on Dec. 13 by the Mid-America Council of Public Purchasing. He is the first Lee’s Summit R-7 staff member to receive this award.
Christine Salas-Dorantes, president of MACPP, presented the award to Mr. Cox for his leadership role on several innovative programs within the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District. These include an electric-powered distribution truck project, the district’s Lease-Purchase Initiatives (which include a transition to school buses and service vehicles powered by compressed natural gas or CNG) and the first public CNG fueling station in Lee’s Summit.
Cox and the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District were also praised for use of “best practices” in the area of purchasing procedures.
In thanking the organization for the award, Cox said, “I want to recognize my Lee’s Summit team, including the superintendent and Board of Education, my purchasing and distribution staff and most importantly Dr. Tom Kurucz (R-7 deputy superintendent of operations) for his mentorship and leadership.
“Whether playing a team sport or working on a large-scale project, you simply can’t receive individual awards like this without the coaches putting you into a position to be successful and coaching you up. Just as important are your teammates working hard to ensure your success. This is a Lee’s Summit School District accomplishment.”
