Consider the opportunity

December 20, 2013

Dear Editor,

Why all this gnashing of teeth over the transfer of students who have the disadvantage of living within the boundaries of the KC Public School System? Why are LS Public School leaders apparently only concerned about the financial cost of making room for these kids?

Instead of saving up for the inevitable, we put money in the pockets of lawyers to beg out of the deal. These Kansas City teenagers have had nothing to do with the dismal mismanagement of their schools. They have had nothing to do with their schools being judged unfit. They are teenagers looking for guidance.

It’s time for our educators to consider this to be an opportunity to help families in need. Maybe, just maybe, some of these kids will bring us new energy along with their new challenges, and maybe, just maybe, this will give LS Schools an opportunity to prove how good we say we are.
