LS Police Sergeant chosen city Employee of the Year

December 27, 2013

Lee’s Summit Police Sgt. Rod Schaeffer was chosen Dec. 14 as the city of Lee’s Summit’s Employee of the Year.

Schaeffer is a 21-year veteran of the police department and currently serves as a sergeant within the traffic safety section. Schaeffer is also a member of the department’s tactical team and has a long and diverse career in tactical operations.

According to a news release from the LSPD, Schaeffer was chosen for the honor based upon the work that he completed during 2013 in developing a training program for city employees in response to violence in the workplace. Schaeffer invested a large amount of time in developing and delivering the program to several different city departments that are now better prepared to deal with violent situations should they arise.

Schaeffer received a $50 gift certificate for the downtown Lee’s Summit shopping district as well as a $50 dining gift card.

In addition to the city’s employee of the year honor, each year the police department conducts an awards ceremony in April and also chooses an officer and civilian employee of the year.
